The Event is coming...

Join us to celebrate 2012's most hotly-anticipated event, to be witnessed by billions around the world...

...the apocalypse. The first two Events will take place on 12/02/2012 and 19/02/2012, 1400–1800, in the basement at The Albany in central London. In addition to talks and performances from experts including scientists, authors and journalists, there will be many opportunities for the audience to share their own ideas with one another.

What's the point of it?

There is currently a huge mainstream appetite for apocalyptic scenarios, but some individuals have always given it a lot of thought. From a conference perspective, my chief intention is to introduce interested people to some niche thinkers they wouldn't otherwise get to meet, and certainly not for £5 on a Sunday afternoon. From a doomsayer perspective, well, we all know the world will end one day. For two afternoons, in a safe, supportive environment, we can actually allow ourselves think about what might happen.

Which big names can I use?

For the most up-to-date speaker details, follow the series on Lanyrd and Twitter (@_theevent_) or even better, email the organiser.

Who's organising it?

The Event is the brainchild of me, Leila Johnston. I'm a full-time writer for a digital agency, sometime sci-fi and humour author, journalist and broadcaster.

Here are some more details for press use, including a provisional speaker list.
